Good morning from this corner of my house! These

Good morning from this corner of my house!

These art panels were created by painting my feelings through harsh + swift movements on canvas or paper. But I became more interested in how light and shadows marked my space or on the very surface of my canvas. These light markings became my escape, my muse and every surface became my canvas.

I began to document the markings as they were projected throughout the day inside or outside. I wanted to try and capture these moments through carefully curated
compositions. To escape again for a few moments through the lens of my device. These moments became my new muse, a new perspective of my own imagination. I needed them to become something more for me something real and tangible not just a brief, synthesized escape.

I began weaving these captured moments into transformative fabric panels providing an immediate tactile experience of ease and comfort.

These art panels are for sale and will be available thru my newly renovated online shop soon. I am extremely nervous but even more excited for this next chapter of ValerieKiserDesign that will allow me to nurture my desire as an artist and to create more intimate spatial experiences.

This is a DIY coffee table I made from a piece of marble I found that someone put out on trash day + a planter pot I got at Home Goods for $14.99. The tall skinny vase was my Grandmothers that she got on a trip to Sweden and the other is just a random I acquired over the years.

Maximizing natural light, contrasting pops of colo

Maximizing natural light, contrasting pops of color, textures to create the cush and comfy, curvy and straight lines to keep it playful to hang w/family and our fur family or to entertain friends here.

My interior inspo/intent was to create an overall experience like a welcoming art gallery as our living room.

Collecting and curating this space took many years and a lot of dreaming. It will continue to evolve as I continue to dream.

Had the absolute pleasure to paint this mural on a client/friend’s home office/guest room. She asked if I could paint banana leaves on her walls and I of course said “YES”! and went immediately to a local greenhouse (@creeksidegardens to do some research and take pictures to marinate on it over the holidays. The rest is history.

I am completely in love with this dramatic transformation. Always such an honor when a fellow artist asks for you to create something for them in their personal space. And nothing makes me happier then to create a wonderful spatial experience.

Christmas 🎄 as art! Here she is! This year we

Christmas 🎄 as art!

Here she is! This year we got a new type of tree bc it was the only one taller than me at the farm and every family member voted this was the winner. Have to admit the fluffy branches at first had me convinced it would be a challenge to decorate it but once we had it in the space I fell in love with how beautiful it was and just left it be. I trimmed a couple branches to make it more symmetrical and decided to decorate with black and white stripes, pops of red and gold and topped it off with a piece of art I got last year from @angelachrusciakiblehm

The gifts are wrapped with recycled stendig calendar pages, old paper pattern samples and white plotter paper I’ve always had in the studio and tied up with our stock ribbon.

The kids both got baby trees for their rooms this year to put their handmade and favorite ornaments on which are adorable and I’ll will share a little peak at those soon.

Christmas is my favorite holiday. It was always my parents favorite too so I think all those amazing memories imprinted into my brain and it’s just auto pilot hohoho.

While I still like to implement my childhood traditions into my own family now putting my own stamp on the holiday is the most fun. There are no rules in decorating or colors to use specifically for Christmas no matter what other people say. Make it your own. 🖤

Holiday styled shoot at our house from last year I

Holiday styled shoot at our house from last year I never shared and they are too good to not share. My style and design taste is modern comfy with yummy textures and fun pops of color. Yellow was my pop of color last year and I still love. I’ve got some new color pops this year I’m planning to work into our holiday decor. I start thinking about all of this is in September early October but don’t put anything out until after Thanksgiving. I think all the years (20) working in retail made me pump the brakes in my own house even if we started buying, creating and designing in the summer for holiday season. Some years we were lucky to even have a tree up. I consider myself fortunate these last couple of years that my business has changed for many reasons and I chose to make the transition and scale way back out of that intense grind/hustle to find more balance in my personal life and allow new opportunities to flow my way. Since then I’ve been able to enjoy this holiday season in ways I never could before. Not saying it was an easy choice or that I sometimes don’t miss my interactions with other small businesses and makers just saying when 1 door closes other doors open. 🫶🎄🫶

Pics I found scrolling thru my endless supply of iPhone photos never posted. I have SO many. It’s out of control actually. Who else can relate?

I created this velvet paneled wall in front of a bay window in our master bedroom. I used a double curtain rod mounted on the ceiling and used both, white sheers and velvet curtain panels. Viola! 🌞🌚🌞

Saturday morning chill from our new favorite nook

Saturday morning chill from our new favorite nook featuring this vintage sofa!

I chose a durable, family/pet friendly velvet fabric along with a high traffic/easy clean rug option. This is my formula for the entire house when it comes to designing and styling bc there is no room that is off limits for the kids or pets. The rest of the room decor has been collected over the past few years from new, old or DIY pieces.

I like to take my time designing a space to feel out what is needed and how it can function and feels at different times of the day and even throughout the year. This room has transformed many times over the 2 years we have lived here but I always had vision of sorts like the one that is starting to take shape. I also take a long time curating new pieces to add to our home. My favorite is combining modern and vintage pieces to our historic 100+ year old home without totally trying to erase the beautiful history of the home.

However, I do try and enforce a “no eating” rule on the new vintage sofa but of course…still find the crumbs!

I have always tried to be bipartisan and challenge

I have always tried to be bipartisan and challenge myself to think about someone else’s perspective especially when it differs from mine as painful as that is sometimes. I always thought this to be important. You can usually come to an understanding about how someone could arrive at their fundamental belief systems. To hold conversation and thought led by curiosity instead of fear, judgement or control. This is hard but I have found myself trying to hold to these standards.

And, as a result, I have tried to be respectful to everyone on this platform by not pushing my own fundamental beliefs on a business page. But I was wrong and that was naive. I often wonder if my silence seemed like compliance.

I will never be quiet again for women’s rights, especially mothers and family rights for better mental health, medical care and overall better community and supportive resources, I will forever loudly support the gay/trans community to fight for their rights or any other person tried to be controlled or stripped of basic human rights bc of race, gender and sexual orientation.

I understand that some of you might not agree with me and this post and that’s ok. It’s a big world and a big platform to go find your people.

Go find them. I will.

I realized I’ve never shared my sons room after

I realized I’ve never shared my sons room after I painted it a little while back. I know many of you followed along in my stories and have even told me in person how much you love…and I want to say thank you so much and same friend, same.

Our sons room was Alabaster White bc it was the color I chose after we purchased this house directly after Shelter In Place was lifted. I chose it bc it went the best w/the kitchen cabinets and countertop. At the time I wanted to chose one color to flow into every room. And honestly to just start over with a clean slate…mentally and physically.

But after living in the space for almost 2 years this color wasn’t a good fit for our sons bedroom. White is too stimulating for his active mind and we wanted to create a more soothing, safe environment for him to relax in and find his calm.

I chose 30 different colors in grey, blacks and blues (his choices) and taped them to his wall. He left them up for 24hrs and chose this color bc he loved how it looked in the daylight but more importantly at night.

I purchased the paint from Benjamin Moore and used 3 different finishes in the room. The quality of this paint was superb and I didn’t even use a drip cloth. It’s that good!

We also didn’t purchase anything else for the room just repurposed and rearrangement a bit. Still have to hang art but if I waited until that happened it might be 2023. :)

Over the weekend I decided it was a good time to t

Over the weekend I decided it was a good time to tackle some of the I never want TO DO LIST that I put off for months. One being the holes left in the ceiling around the base of light fixtures around the house from installing new fixtures last September.

I could have used caulk, spackle or I’ve even heard of people using toothpaste to fill in holes but I’ve only ever used toothpaste to fill nail holes in a wall. So for this job I chose a light spackle that goes on pink and dries white. It’s super easy to use with my finger and the excess wipes away with damp cloth or paper towel. 2 coats and it was done! ✔️✔️

Happy Friday! Sharing my Friday morning musings from the dining room, our only dining table in the house that also doubles for the kids school work stations and creation station bc they refuse to use the space I created them on the third floor. We spend a lot of time as a family in this space. Like everywhere in my home it’s a curated space I took great care to put together that the 3 other people who live here feel comfortable sprawling out! I do my best to provide organizational systems that keep us functional (and my brain from exploding on the daily) I’ve never found anything that works full proof. I just keep tidying up on the side, purging the excessive amounts of piles that build up from week to week. But at least the piles have a place to live beside the dining room table?! I guess that’s a win. I have been fighting myself in putting Valentine stuff away as you’ll see in the last video. Maybe I’ll put them away before Easter.

Shot all of these this morning without touching a thing…well fine, I admit I took the white feather off of the floor in the last video bc it made my brain so crazy seeing it in the photos. 😉🖤

Ps. The oranges in the centerpiece of table are hard as rocks and have transformed from being food to being truly just decor.

As a creative it is hard for me between projects.

As a creative it is hard for me between projects. While focusing and working on projects I make sense, everything makes sense, it’s almost like a high the height of a really exciting project. But down time seems like low time. It’s a combo of perpetual FOMO and never being enough. It’s a lot of pressure I put on myself at all times. As an adult who is striving to show my own children healthier tools for managing mental health I really have to look at my own learned emotional response triggers, behavioral patterns and habits. My son recently told his father “mom has no chill” and to be honest I don’t have “chill”. I feel guilty about chillin. It’s fucked up but true.
I was never taught how to be chill or how to manage stress until adulthood. Recently while helping my children cope with their own perfection and ocd symptoms (that can appear as and cause anxiety, stress and anger) I have started to make sense of a lot of my own anxiety.

I took this photo last week while trying to be chill. It felt staged. But what I do like is that it was in the moment with all the papers and tablets and Lego creations in the distance my children have decided to adorn the credenza. And I’ve realized that I am proud that we live in a house that is beautifully designed and decorated but where my kids feel safe and seen at home.

I have decided to post photos from home that depict the messes and piles among the beautiful backgrounds I’ve created in this platform more often. The trend of perfectly curated and styled feeds were fun for a while bc they fed my inner perfectionism. But after I while I began comparing and tearing myself down for not being enough. And if my brain is telling me these lies how is a younger more impressionable brain feeling?

I cannot promise I won’t post perfectly curated, beautifully, styled spaces bc I am an artist and creating/styling makes me happy and I LOVE a good composition. But the grind of curating perfect grid squares that only project a perfect life or job here is done.
