Since my friend @greystoneonwaverly said it was hy

Since my friend @greystoneonwaverly said it was hydrangea season and I needed to style this corner in our foyer I thought I’d bring my white hydrangeas planted this spring into the set up! It’s the first time I’ve ever planted these white dwarf hydrangeas and I’m in love!

The wall install consists of a large panel woven painting, and two smaller mixed media paintings with artist tape. I think the synergy of all the line work and each panel including the electrical plates is a really beautiful balance. Slide to see the install and more detail pics.

Yesterday was my 44th bday and I spent it walking

Yesterday was my 44th bday and I spent it walking around a small art town, scheming all ways and spaces to place sofas like these, sipping turmeric+ginger lattes, shopping eclectic shops curated as perfect as the artists that run them, and drinking all the tequila drinks while solving and resolving life w/my friend @daniellecoonsphoto Love you friend! Thanks for spending the day with me. 🖤

And thank you @zenboz for taking the kids and giving me my time! Plus thanks for all the love w/super sweet messages and gifts throughout the day. You guys are the absolute best!

Good morning from my super quiet and pseudo tidy h

Good morning from my super quiet and pseudo tidy house! My husband took the kids for the weekend giving me a “vacation” at home leaving behind an early bday present for me. Everybody meet Pancake🥞, my new robot vacuum! It’s been two days and I’m already obsessed. Still have to figure out how to program it to not go under the stove where it gets stuck every single time. If anyone out there has one I’d love some pointers!

I actually really do enjoy vacuuming bc it’s super cathartic but also love watching Pancake working hard while I sip on coffee. I will say it’s rewarding though to see how much dirt that little sucker got up in the time it runs. I know, I’m weird, but it’s my thing and I’m super cool with that. 🖤🧹

First looks at our Styled 10th Wedding Anniversary

First looks at our Styled 10th Wedding Anniversary Dinner Party last week! We haven’t had much time to ourselves let alone time spent just with the two of us these last 17 months. While we would love to have gone away somewhere just us that wasn’t an option. So I collaborated w/our friend and wedding photographer @chalajan @chala.imagery to design and style a dinner party to celebrate us. We were also lucky to have @epicureandelightcatering who catered our wedding all those years ago create the most fabulous and delicious menu for the evening. It was an evening we will never forget. Sooooo many incredible and but more importantly hilarious moments captured from that night (bc we drank an entire bottle of champagne 🍾 while shooting) Be prepared to see a ton from that night shown here and in stories but for now here are the first 10. 🖤💛🖤

Finally finished the drapery panels and installed

Finally finished the drapery panels and installed last night for those of you that have been following my stories. And this morning is first time in a month this room could be “cleaned” up! 🙌🏽 Still have some finishing touches and other fun installs to add in the future but for now it feels good to just let it be.

This space is furnished with lots of fun, new inspiring pieces along w/showcasing historic details, sentimental and vintage gems.

✨Grey Boucle Sofa is new from @kardiel
✨Black Velvet Settee is new-to-me from @chippywhitetable @chippyhomestore
✨Coffee Table was made from family friends barn beams
✨End Tables and Credenza were made by my Grandfather from trees milled on our family farm
✨Metal Shelving is @cb2
✨Danish Rocker is new-to-me estate sale gift from a friend I reupholstered w/VKD woven fabric
✨Draperies are custom made from paintings I converted to a repeat pattern and had woven into yardage from a Mill in South Carolina and then made into hook and ring curtain panels.
✨Drapery Hardware we customized by using 3 rods and extension parts from another rod plus corner clips to wrap the bay windows from @potterybarn
✨Black Leather Rhino Foot Stool @lavishscranton
✨Plush Cushions under Couch @marimekko
✨Rug (for now but is getting relocated to another room in future) @florsquares
✨Ceiling Light Fixture is my favorite piece and sets the tone for the overall design and feel you get in the space. @sonnemanlight by Robert Sonneman (whose work inspires me so much)

And yes, I make these myself using a technique called Shabori, a Japanese form of tie dye where patterns are made from folded, clamped or wax resists. I first learned about Shabori when I was in college. For those that don’t know about my history, I have a degree in Fiber Art. For those that don’t know what Fiber Art is…Fiber art refers to fine art whose material consists of natural or synthetic fiber and other components, such as fabric or yarn. It focuses on the materials and on the manual labor on the part of the artist as part of the works' significance, and prioritizes aesthetic value over utility.

It also has a very utilItarian component as well called textile design, which is anything that you wear, touch and see throughout the day and night like clothing, bedding, upholstery for home/office/auto…literary anything that is made from a fiber that we interact with throughout our life. Haha.

You guys, look what I found in the back of my shir

You guys, look what I found in the back of my shirt drawer! The VERY first VKD Electric City T-shirt from 2011!!! It’s been 10 years ya’ll! (I can say ya’ll bc I lived in Savannah, GA for 5 years so it’s forever part of me. I also start speaking in a southern accent when I’m around my college friends from the south.) Anyway, can’t believe it’s been 10 years since I started VKD. But before that I was a contract artist and designer that screen printed out of my home studio since 1996 while working every possible job on the side you can imagine. And honestly not that much has changed. Yes, I now contract the screen printing locally but I still create, design, hand dye/cut/style and sew every single pillow out of my home studio. And love having a variety of different projects with various opportunities to meet new people and challenge myself in a lot of different mediums and outlets.

In our last house I had a studio in a converted two car garage where I could escape and work. In the new house, it’s right smack dab in the middle of our living space.

Anyway, who has one of these original burnout styles? Should we bring back burnout styles again? Haha. Idk.

Wait until you see the new styles I made over the past week. I LOVE seeing where I started and where I am today. Love you guys and your support! 🖤

Spent the past few days sweating my face off while rearranging the entire downstairs of our house. I have so much more I want to do but it will have to happen in stages. The kids are in camp and I’m reclaiming the space and my mind with fresh perspective. This guy of mine turned 8 yesterday and successful

This guy of mine turned 8 yesterday and successfully completed his 2nd Grade Homeschool last week! We pushed each other beyond our limits then held each other up when we went too far. Neither one of us wanted to be a Homeschool Duo but it was the best fit for our family. I give my creative brain all the credit to be able to adapt and try to keep it fresh from week to week. I give him credit for doing all the work even when he pushed back. He read over 226 books this school year and accomplished all of his goals (and our goals) beyond what we set out to do in the first place. He thanked me for being the best teacher he ever had on the way home from his evaluation and interview. I gave him a high five and hug for all his efforts and for recognizing mine. I hope we can always look back on this year as something we accomplished together and be super proud of each other.

Also, I wanted to mark this year with special “school” photos so my wonderful friend @daniellecoonsphoto took these amazing portraits of him on location @lavishscranton. I love them more than I can put into words to mark our year together…Miss Kiser’s 2nd Grade Class 20-21.

How was everyone’s weekend? My was pretty good.

How was everyone’s weekend? My was pretty good. I repotted my monstera plant and successfully made 2 cuttings from the plant and put those into new pots as well. But currently we have a sewer clog that has run a mess into the basement and outside our house. Rossi Rooter is here to save the day and I’m hiding on my porch waiting to bleach everything. 🥃 #shithappens

Summer is here! Restrictions are lifted.
Homeschool is almost over and I am so excited to retire after my premiere year as an Elementary Teacher! 5 full weeks of Summer Camp are almost here! Thank you so much to everyone that has made the VKD Summer such a success! I’ve restocked a few of this fun style and more of the cropped yellow tee from a recent post @lavishscranton. I’ve got some more ideas swirling around in my head to try in the next couple of weeks. All the styles this season are hand dyed or custom cut, no two are exactly alike and cannot be replicated again bc it’s always somewhat of an unknown outcome...which is my favorite! Tag me if you’ve gotten one of these so far bc I love seeing you. 🖤
