Last week I had the amazing opportunity to work ou Last week I had the amazing opportunity to work out of state designing and styling a gorgeous backyard flowing dinner party for @epicureandelightcatering. Part of my vision was floral design which I did myself! Surprisingly, I have to say I found myself at total ease in choosing the florals and arranging them for their site specific destination. I have so many images of my trip to the floral warehouse and then finding my groove along the stems. I worked my butt off along with the absolute best team @michelle_cadden and @sydneydecker_ and we produced an event that we all could be proud of when we drove away.

My overall design/vision weren’t able to come to light due to circumstances out of my control. Which in turn made me feel out of control and personally disappointed overall only bc as a creative visionary to not see something come to life after spending so much time designing and preparing can be devastating. I also had a team that helped me create these elements and I know they were disappointed too. I can almost guarantee every time I look at images from or think of this event I’ll forever wish that missing part was there and included in the overall experience. But as a professional who has been doing this long enough I can still see this as a huge success walking away with a ton of new knowledge to make the next event and collaboration logistics even better.

These images are just one concept of the party to have color represent different areas and activities of the event. This was the lounge area. I wanted to play with the minimalistic vibes and do something subtle, soft and sculptural with a touch of whimsy to spoke to the modern architecture and natural elements like concrete, steel, glass and gorgeous fauna.

I realized I’ve never shared my sons room after I realized I’ve never shared my sons room after I painted it a little while back. I know many of you followed along in my stories and have even told me in person how much you love…and I want to say thank you so much and same friend, same.

Our sons room was Alabaster White bc it was the color I chose after we purchased this house directly after Shelter In Place was lifted. I chose it bc it went the best w/the kitchen cabinets and countertop. At the time I wanted to chose one color to flow into every room. And honestly to just start over with a clean slate…mentally and physically.

But after living in the space for almost 2 years this color wasn’t a good fit for our sons bedroom. White is too stimulating for his active mind and we wanted to create a more soothing, safe environment for him to relax in and find his calm.

I chose 30 different colors in grey, blacks and blues (his choices) and taped them to his wall. He left them up for 24hrs and chose this color bc he loved how it looked in the daylight but more importantly at night.

I purchased the paint from Benjamin Moore and used 3 different finishes in the room. The quality of this paint was superb and I didn’t even use a drip cloth. It’s that good!

We also didn’t purchase anything else for the room just repurposed and rearrangement a bit. Still have to hang art but if I waited until that happened it might be 2023. :)

Over the weekend I decided it was a good time to t Over the weekend I decided it was a good time to tackle some of the I never want TO DO LIST that I put off for months. One being the holes left in the ceiling around the base of light fixtures around the house from installing new fixtures last September.

I could have used caulk, spackle or I’ve even heard of people using toothpaste to fill in holes but I’ve only ever used toothpaste to fill nail holes in a wall. So for this job I chose a light spackle that goes on pink and dries white. It’s super easy to use with my finger and the excess wipes away with damp cloth or paper towel. 2 coats and it was done! ✔️✔️

Name one thing on your never want TO DO LIST right now but you know you have to?

Happy Friday! Sharing my Friday morning musings fr Happy Friday! Sharing my Friday morning musings from the dining room, our only dining table in the house that also doubles for the kids school work stations and creation station bc they refuse to use the space I created them on the third floor. We spend a lot of time as a family in this space. Like everywhere in my home it’s a curated space I took great care to put together that the 3 other people who live here feel comfortable sprawling out! I do my best to provide organizational systems that keep us functional (and my brain from exploding on the daily) I’ve never found anything that works full proof. I just keep tidying up on the side, purging the excessive amounts of piles that build up from week to week. But at least the piles have a place to live beside the dining room table?! I guess that’s a win. I have been fighting myself in putting Valentine stuff away as you’ll see in the last video. Maybe I’ll put them away before Easter.

Shot all of these this morning without touching a thing…well fine, I admit I took the white feather off of the floor in the last video bc it made my brain so crazy seeing it in the photos. 😉🖤

Ps. The oranges in the centerpiece of table are hard as rocks and have transformed from being food to being truly just decor.

As a creative it is hard for me between projects. As a creative it is hard for me between projects. While focusing and working on projects I make sense, everything makes sense, it’s almost like a high the height of a really exciting project. But down time seems like low time. It’s a combo of perpetual FOMO and never being enough. It’s a lot of pressure I put on myself at all times. As an adult who is striving to show my own children healthier tools for managing mental health I really have to look at my own learned emotional response triggers, behavioral patterns and habits. My son recently told his father “mom has no chill” and to be honest I don’t have “chill”. I feel guilty about chillin. It’s fucked up but true.
I was never taught how to be chill or how to manage stress until adulthood. Recently while helping my children cope with their own perfection and ocd symptoms (that can appear as and cause anxiety, stress and anger) I have started to make sense of a lot of my own anxiety.

I took this photo last week while trying to be chill. It felt staged. But what I do like is that it was in the moment with all the papers and tablets and Lego creations in the distance my children have decided to adorn the credenza. And I’ve realized that I am proud that we live in a house that is beautifully designed and decorated but where my kids feel safe and seen at home.

I have decided to post photos from home that depict the messes and piles among the beautiful backgrounds I’ve created in this platform more often. The trend of perfectly curated and styled feeds were fun for a while bc they fed my inner perfectionism. But after I while I began comparing and tearing myself down for not being enough. And if my brain is telling me these lies how is a younger more impressionable brain feeling?

I cannot promise I won’t post perfectly curated, beautifully, styled spaces bc I am an artist and creating/styling makes me happy and I LOVE a good composition. But the grind of curating perfect grid squares that only project a perfect life or job here is done.

Posting progress pics of the Parameters Collection Posting progress pics of the Parameters Collection I’ve been working on…even though I haven’t felt inspired by this platform or the desire to post here lately. I just don’t feel like people see the posts lately and then wonder if it’s worth engaging or if you can actually engage here anymore. The platform is very different (millions of reels) and I’m still figuring out how I can be me. But since I don’t have a store front this is really the only public platform I use to connect with others and I have depended on these connections for many years. It makes working solo in a small city less lonely and to feel connected to a larger creative collective. It’s a weird world. Haha.

Anyway, thank you for letting me honest with you.

I recently disassembled my “studio” and made a communal work space in the room off our foyer way that transitions into the the foyer. Which is where I found myself working since we moved in here. There is no longer one space I sit and create in. And since that isn’t really how creating works for me anyway it’s best for now to just move around and use whatever space is best for the project or how I feel at the moment.

How/where do you work? At a desk, standing up at a table, on the floor? I work on the floor a lot!

Progress design of the entryway…This space is a Progress design of the entryway…This space is a work in progress and that process of progress is worth a post of its own. After debating well over a year about what would go on this wall I settled on this last week and installed over the weekend. The panel wall is made of custom designed woven fabric panels and a neon rope. The design came from the Parameters series I’ve been exploring while at home the last couple of years.

I haven’t settled on anything else for the space bc I have a lot of moving parts. Part of it is bc the new light fixture I had installed in here stopped working 6 months later and a replacement hasn’t been available. And the same light collection was installed 4 other areas of our home and another one similar to the entryway design has begun to show signs of issues but that’s another post… so I might need to rethink the overall design to accommodate a new fixture and the other elements within this space and the connecting rooms. It’s all connected and always evolving.

Project Upholstered Headboard Update! Last week Project Upholstered Headboard Update!

Last week I decided to tackle customizing this headboard in our master bedroom. We got this bed 10 years ago as a wedding gift and always had the intention of reupholstering the center panel and keeping the wooden frame. It wasn’t until last year when I received samples of fabric I had made from a painting that gave me the idea to wrap the entire headboard in a custom design. Swipe to see during day pics, at night, and before I installed the velvet wall in the bay window behind the bed and headboard for reference. Little pieces and projects at a time our home feels like only ours.

Upholstering is always a process. It’s not too complicated but takes some patience to figure it out and take the steps to make the final result look professional. Anyone can do it though. The first piece I upholstered was a traditional love seat 20 years ago that I dissembled by taking apart, removing the arms and back legs to customize and modernize the design. It wasn’t “perfect” and I couldn’t figure out the zipper on the seat cushions so I left the back seam open but it was a success in so many ways including the confidence to keep going.

Do you have upholster projects you want to tackle in your own home? What are they and what has kept you from doing them?

Partly because we have the room in our new house and in part bc there are 3(maybe 4) people who have very specific ideas about how to decorate a Christmas Tree. And since I want the mini people that live here to be able to have a sense of expression and place in our family traditions, but also still want to feel a little creative control over the decor…I did this tree in our foyer way. As a whole family though we were inspired by the holiday neon light installation I did at the beginning of the season. My husband requested a neon rope wrapped tree and once I thawed out from hell freezing over after he said that I went to work. I love it! Make your Christmas yours. Make Christmas for your people.
